Equidate and Mirum partner on new trading platform to help build awareness of stock market for private companies

Mirum has partnered with Equidate — a San Francisco-based stock market for private technology companies — to launch a new trading platform and online campaign.

Imagine getting in on Facebook’s pre-IPO stock price. With Mirum’s new “Early is Everything” campaign created in partnership with San Francisco-based Equidate, you can.

That’s why we’re excited to announce the launch of this unique opportunity that gives individuals a second chance to own a stake in two of the world’s most successful and innovative companies – Facebook and Tesla – at their pre-IPO prices.

Equidate, a stock market for private technology companies, and Mirum will launch Equidate’s new trading platform today with an online campaign that features two “Early is Everything” events, giving investors a rare chance at first-come-first-served offerings on Equidate’s trading platform, where they can learn more about its open, liquid marketplace and receive encouragement to sign up.

For the campaign, Mirum also reworked Equidate’s brand with a cleaner, more modern logo, and developed the Early is Everything positioning.

“Mirum has played a significant role in helping us further define our voice,” said Sohail Prasad, Founder and Co-CEO of Equidate. “The agency worked with us to create a campaign that positions Equidate as a thought leader in our industry, while building awareness of our platform and of the secondary market.”

What’s behind the “Early is Everything” idea?

On July 28th, Equidate’s first pre-IPO Pricing Event will offer people the opportunity to own a share of Facebook at $4.54 – the price at its Series E in May 2009 –instead of its recent price of over $115. On August 4th, Equidate will offer Tesla for $2.97 – the price at its Series F in May 2009 – instead of its current price of over $215. Equidate is taking a loss on every certificate to prove a point: that when it comes to investing in the most successful companies in the world, Early is Everything.

Timeliness is the key to successful tech investing. Equidate’s new platform means employees no longer have to wait to convert valuable stock into cash, and investors are not locked out of the market during a company’s high-growth, pre-IPO phase. It also allows the public access to proprietary data and information about thousands of private companies, including share prices, stock charts, investors, share counts and valuations. Unlike the public markets, where this information is readily available, in the private market this data has historically been fragmented or unavailable without paying a high cost. By combining in-depth insights and analysis with sophisticated technology and enhanced investing tools, Equidate now enables anyone to research companies and find new opportunities in the private technology stock market – all for free.

Backed by tech investing powerhouses Y Combinator, Goldman Sachs and BCG alumni, as well as a high-profile board of executives, advisors and angel investors, Equidate levels the playing field for investors by giving them real-time updates to the value of their stock holdings and an up-to-the-minute news feed on private companies – giving them a clearer financial picture of their net worth.

“What Equidate has built is exciting for both investors and employees,” said Dan Khabie, North American and Global CEO of Mirum. “We’re thrilled to be a part of helping this marketplace grow as people realize the opportunities that exist.”
