A station is a place where you wait – either for your train, or for somebody who’s due to arrive. Around 300,000 people a day pass through Berlin’s central station, so that’s a lot of waiting. And quite often all the seats are taken. IKEA came to rescue with a poster demonstrating that – with its modular furniture, notably the Vallentuna range – you can “make the most of a little space”. Placed near the station’s main escalators, the poster was literally interactive: passers-by could sit down on its genuine sofa. As soon as one or two people took a seat, a special team materialised to transform the space into a tiny 14 square metre lounge, thus giving them a chance to relax during their busy day.
