Story | For more than 100 years women are fighting for more equality. But against the hidden tricks of the cosmetic industry they still seem to be powerless. The German Organization for Consumer Rights found out that personal care products are 40% more expensive just because they are designed for women. At the same time they are 100% identical to the male equivalent. In 2019 a new moisturizer line was launched in order to confront consumers with this mean manipulation for the very first time. The feminine designed product was 40% more expensive. At the first glance it’s presented like two different products. But in reality: it’s just one! In a pop-up store and in web shop the product line gained a lot of attention. Shocked female consumers spread the word about their experience throughout Germany. And it didn’t take long for the campaign to lead to a huge media debate about price discrimination. But most importantly, in end millions of women finally know how to overcome the tricks of the industry:: Simply check if you can choose the identical, but less expensive men’s product. |
