Almost Everything Is Planned: Jenna Powitz, Situation

Tell us about your internship, what are your main responsibilities?

My name is Jenna, and I’m a Content Intern at Situation. In this position, I have written all different kinds of copy documents ranging from video treatments to banner ad copy to social posts. I also assist in department projects such as curating a list of social handles for each of our client’s cast and creative teams, as well as attend brainstorms for monthly and quarterly content planning.

Do you have a dream account or brand you’d like to work with? Which one?

A dream account for me is to work on a Broadway show, so working at Situation has already been a dream come true for me. I have loved becoming familiar with each account’s unique voice and tone that they use in their social posts and copy.

Talk to us about the culture in your office, how has it impacted your internship?

This is the first time I’ve ever worked in a real office setting, and working with such talented and passionate people has made it a truly wonderful experience.

What have you learned about the advertising industry that surprised you?

The thing that surprised me the most about the advertising industry has been how far in advance almost everything is planned. Whether it’s a large campaign or even a small social post, we talk about things everyday that will not be released for months. I knew beforehand the advertising industry was fast-paced, but I never realized the long-term planning process that goes into almost everything until I got to be a part of it myself.

Choose a current popular advertising trend and tell us what’s interesting about it:

The use of digital marketing to inspire people to come together in real life has been something I’ve loved seeing – especially when it comes to events. I think it’s really smart that brands are doing more pop-ups that have a level of interactivity that makes the brand stick with consumers long after the event.I also find it really interesting when brands like Spotify get creative in connecting with people in-person in a way that directs them back to the online platform, and I think marketing events in this way is something that will only continue to grow with time.

Imagine your dream job, where are you, what does a day-to-day look like?

Right now, I picture my dream job as working with something I’m passionate about – whether that’s theatre, movies, or television – and going into work everyday happy with what I’m doing and the work I’m producing. I don’t know if that means an agency like Situation or working in-house for a client, but I just picture my dream job as a place where I am happy.

Are you considering another internship, or looking for jobs now? What are your next steps?

I will be going into my junior year of college at the University of Florida , so I have some time to keep learning and gaining experience. I am already thinking about internships I want to apply to for next summer. Check out my LinkedIn!

What is your favorite ad of all time?

The Hershey Kisses Christmas ad that has been on air since 1989. I love how simple the ad is as well as how it has been able to stay relevant for decades and remain a staple of the holiday season for many.
