Four for the Holidays: ARGONAUT & Cricket Wireless

 

Modeled after a Hollywood release, Cricket Wireless is launching a blockbuster of a holiday campaign this season with the help of its AOR, ARGONAUT, which will literally bring its animated characters to life.

The campaign leverages everything from celebrity cameos to movie-poster billboards “promoting” the film to social teasers – all aimed at reminding consumers that the best holiday plans are the ones that keep us together. You’ll see snippets of the campaign on television as well as on social including brand ambassadors and influencers.

Was the brief for this holiday campaign any different that than the usual? What challenges did that present?

The challenge was trying to make an class-leading, evergreen offer feel new and surprising.

 

What inspired you to approach the campaign this way?

We were inspired by the fact that, much like holiday blockbuster movies, Cricket’s wireless plans bring people together. And we wanted to tell a story about connection.

 

What’s a “behind the scenes” story that only you know about?

We created the dead of winter, including real snow (!), on an 80-degree day in Los Angeles.

 

Are there any holiday ad tropes that you think should be retired by now?

Giant bows on automobiles.

 

What is your favorite holiday campaign of all time?

Whatever the last John Lewis ad was that made me cry.

 

What can we expect from your agency in 2019?

More press, less ads.
