POV: Director

How would you describe what you do?
I'm directing TV and online commercials and also fashion/music videos.
How did you get into this job?
I started out by being around the backstage tent at fashion week in Bangkok doing photography for fashion brands and magazine. I learnt a lot from watching great stylists and show directors work for the runway show. Until I got to do some videos and editing by myself for fashion brands, and when Magnum (Unilever Thai) got me on board for a small behind the scene video and it went super viral, they decided to give me a shot to direct my first TV commercial for Magnum Cafe in 2012.
What is most challenging about what you do?
Make things happen, get great footages beautifully on time.
What is most rewarding?
To work with professional talents and team. That keeps me being excited every time when I get the new board. I know I will learn something.
What’s a typical work week like?
Well, I cannot say it's typical. People think I work all the time but I don't feel like that. Directing has become somehow a big part of my life. So wake up and live my normal life thinking, getting ideas, talking with people and get inspired. I only sit down working on my laptop when the treatment has to done.
What needs to happen the most in order for a shoot to run smoothly?
The understanding and cooperation between production team, agency and client. Clear agenda. Other things else will go according to plan.
Whats your best job/worst job?
I cannot say. I appreciate good things and bad things in life. When we got whether the great shoot or bad shoot, the feeling would stay for a day then I have to move on for the new shoot so.. And I'm still working as a director. I think I can only say which is best/worst when I quit this job. lol.
What advice would you offer someone considering a career as a Director?
Just go out and do it. Don't wait for someone to just hire you to shoot something when you already have a story/visual to tell.
If you had one project that you could post on AdForum to represent your work, what would it be?
Maybe this one, the latest one.

Finally tell us something that most people don’t know about being a Director?
You are not only dealing with your own creativity but you are dealing with people who somehow think different on what you do. A apart of you job is to make them understand and see the same vision as you do. And being a director is a great opportunity with meet so many talents in different fields throughout the process of making one film. That's the best part.
