Story | In 1919, two women sent letters to U.S. colleges asking if any female engineering students had ever been enrolled. The answers they received are as egregious as they are telling. Today, almost 100 years after the letters were written, only 13% of engineers in the U.S. are women. When the letters were rediscovered shortly before International Women in Engineering Day, Boeing decided to make a statement. When read through the voices of real women engineers at Boeing, the words written 100 years ago ring with a poignancy that proves how far we’ve come, and how far we still have to go. |
