Zusammenfassung

I'm a Bay Area native, and current resident, who spent ten years in Hollywood working on features, TV series, commercials, music videos, sitcoms and visual effects projects. Currently I shoot commercials and high-end corporate branding and marketing projects, as well as media meant to be displayed in non-traditional ways.

Working on feature films and TV series taught me how to create a wide variety of looks, from the darkest drama to the brightest comedy, efficiently and without fuss. While I can shoot in nearly any style, my preference is for strongly composed and powerfully lit images that have some shape and "punch" to them.

One of my regular directors says that my work is "sculpted." I like that.

As well as being an artist, I'm a bit of a technical whiz. This helps considerably in choosing the right camera for the job, tackling assignments in new or obscure media formats, and shooting visual effects that sail through post like a summer breeze.

I'm a passionate artist and consummate geek who loves creating beautiful imagery with technologies both ancient and cutting edge. I know way too much about my tools, but that's how great work is born.

Old lenses, new lenses, anamorphic lenses, HD cameras, QHD cameras, film cameras, VR cameras, 4K, 8K, HDR... it's all unicorns and rainbows to me.

Enough words. Time for pictures: http://www.artadamsdp.com.

I'm hard on equipment. Not physically hard, but I do expect it to function properly such that it helps me make amazing images quickly, on time and on budget.

As I'm picky, and I write a lot on the Internet in various places, I've developed a reputation as someone who can tell manufacturers how to make tools that people like myself will actually want to use. Several manufacturers have sought me out for that purpose.

I have: designed color grading charts to ensure perfect color through post (DSC Labs); helped design a spiffy on-board monitor/recorder system (Sound Devices); helped design and calibrate the first broad spectrum LED light for the film industry (Element Labs); consulted on marketing its successors, the Cineo line of lights (PRG); suggested improvements for and beta tested the F55/F5/FS7 cameras (Sony); shot 4K showreel material for a new camera and wrote a paper on how to shoot HDR (Canon); provided input for new products (Arri); shot training videos for a VR camera (Nolia); and some other stuff I can't talk about. Yet.

The more I trust my tools, the more easily I can forget about them and simply create. That is always my end game. Getting there, though, is almost as much fun as shooting.
