In the battle between Apple and Android smartphone users, Samsung just took the fight to its rival. In association with Tribal Aotearoa, a DDB group agency in New Zealand, the brand created iTest – an app that allows Apple users to switch their phone to an Android environment and test all its functionalities. Click on the app and your iPhone immediately resembles an Android device. But how did Samsung and the agency get users to play along without going through the Apple Store? Easy: tech influencers loved the app and spread the word through social networks. The app was rapidly downloaded by over 5.5 million users and Apple to Android switch rates rose 10%. The project also reaped a plethora of awards at Spikes Asia, D&AD, Cannes Lions, the Caples Awards and of course the Webby Awards. |
