Problem
A recent study evaluated 1,471,087 nonfatal cases and 51,561 fatalities (accidents followed by death) in all 645 counties of the State of São Paulo - Brazil. Data were collected by the Department of Public Safety of the State of São Paulo. With regard to fatalities, after Prohibition was reduced by 16% in the capital and 7.2% in other municipalities. In relation to accidents with no fatalities, a reduction of 2.3% in the capital and 1.8% in the rest of the state. The NGO Friend transit supports the measure through their advertising campaigns and social actions.
Ergebnis
Although this study did not consider whether traffic accidents involving drivers evaluated under the effect of alcohol, since the systematic collection of this information is still scarce in our country, it brings important conclusions. For researchers, since the purchasing power of Brazilians and car fleet increased considerably between 2001 and 2010, reducing accidents by the new law is more than satisfactory at present.
