| Story | Creative production studio Versus was recently tapped by Publicis to help create a series of short films for Tampax. Aimed at teen girls, the “First Tampon Stories” series blends live action and animation to share educational tips about periods and tampons in an authentic and relatable way; the campaign is part of Tampax’s larger mission to ensure that teen girls have access to quality educational info online. Averaging two minutes each, the videos are available on Tampax’s website and social media channels and can be viewed. Each short features an anecdote from a different teen girl, imparting lessons learned and other helpful hints to girls who may be getting their periods or trying out tampons for the first time. The Versus team worked closely with Publicis to get a sense of the stories that each video would convey, and map out the best visuals to accompany each one. Versus Creative Director Justin Barnes and Lead Illustrator Jordan Bruner developed a youthful and vibrant visual style, with bright colors and stylized vignettes inspired by doodles, family photos, and more. Along with director Cathryne Czubek, the team blocked out which shots would be live action and which ones would be animated, then shot all the live action components over one day. Bruner’s eye-popping illustrations were then brought to life through a combination of traditional animation and Adobe After Effects. “Hitting the right tone was crucial for this project; we wanted it to be engaging and authentic but also educational,” explained Barnes. “Jordan’s illustrations perfectly complemented the live action and helped achieve a lighthearted daydream vibe that was still grounded in reality. We had a lot of fun putting these videos together and I think they will really resonate with viewers.” |
